Born in the Water

Brett and Dave didn’t learn how fish bite from a book — they learned it in the water, with the fish. Between them, they’ve spent as much time diving as fishing, and that’s no accident: two different ways of reading the same ocean, together giving a full picture — what’s happening on the surface, and what’s happening a hundred feet below it.

That instinct drove Brett through decades of white shark fishing, where chumming at depth is everything — and everything works against you. “It’s always been a challenge to effectively chum at depth,” Brett says. The breakthrough came when he landed on a simple idea: a weighted tube that sinks fast and drops bait at whatever depth you choose — the same basic instinct behind chumming techniques fishermen have leaned on for generations across the South Pacific, just rebuilt for precision. Suddenly chumming wasn’t a fight anymore — it was fast, precise, and dead simple. That idea became the Bait Bomber.

Brett started fishing California's waters at age five and knew early on exactly where he was headed. By twelve, he'd landed his first job as a deckhand — the start of a lifelong path as a waterman. Fishing, spearfishing, and surfing became more than a passion; they became a way of life. Brett has traveled the world as a captain and is widely recognized for his television work, including Offshore Adventures created with David Traylor, Ocean Hunter, Shark Men, and Shark Wranglers. A lifelong creator, Brett channeled decades of hands-on experience into developing the Bait Bomber.

Working alongside Brett McBride on offshore adventures, and spearfishing on Ocean Hunter, he's developed a deep understanding of both traditional and hands-on fishing techniques. His expertise extends beyond the catch — David has refined his skills not only on the water, but in the kitchen, turning his harvest into culinary masterpieces. That well-rounded approach, from pursuit to plate, reflects his respect for the craft and the ocean.
